Oh yeah, it’s a steaming pile of web goodness.

Ok, the day is only halfway through and so I am sure that I could find more things to post. However today’s theme seems to be steampunk. Why? ‘Cause I said so. I am digging this whole idea. Take modern stuff, tweak it, make it look old and then finally incorporate it into daily use. Now, this probably suits me because I am a big fan of carrying a pocketwatch, decorating with antiques, floor-length coats and anything that seems vaguely reminiscent of times gone by. I don’t honestly know why I like this stuff, but I do. I am all about the tactile and visual wonders that can only come from something that has been mouldering in an attic for the past 100 years. Anyway, I suppose the first order of business is to cover what steampunk is. Here’s what Wikipedia had to say:

Now, what I have been mulling over all morning, while I have been doing intranet updates and such here at work, is how to incorporate the steampunk look into the industrial club scene that is so prominent in the Southern California Gothic community. Perhaps I’ll write an article on this for the webzine once I start to get it all sorted out. In the meanwhile I will look tenderly upon my shiny new pocketwatch. No, it’s not my first. My collection is now up to 5! 4 are actually in my posession, the last is in my parents’ safe deposit box. It’s an antique railroad watch and I would prefer that it remain someplace safe. The 4 that I have range in value from about $25 all the way up to about $110, so don’t get any bright ideas that my “general use” collection has a particularly high dollar value on it. They are pretty much sentimental only. I love them and that’s why I have them. I got 2 new ones this weekend, though, so I will most likely be posting pictures of them here later. Anyway, speaking of steampunk, I found a cool site the other day, but it just didn’t fit into what I was posting, so you get it today. This guy is pretty cool.

Finally, I found a site that has so much good stuff I couldn’t help but post it. I am just generally enjoying the hell out of this. Do you like HP Lovecraft? Do you like mustaches? Do you love Cthulhu? Of course you do. So do I. Check out Ectoplasmosis! It’s almost as good as this blog… Heh, I think too highly of my own work, methinks.
