Geek Girl of the Day

Posted in Geek Girl of the Day on November 30th, 2007 by admin

So, today I found something that fits perfectly here. Now I had a long debate because she is becoming pretty popular and I would really rather not share something with you that you will find a hundred different places all over the web. That being said, I decided that this is worth posting even if she has been found by many others. So, who is this mystery woman? Ruby Rocket! Her name sounds like a comic superhero doesn’t it? Well… could be because she basically is one! She goes from convention to convention dressing like female super heroes. She seems to choose characters from comics that she reads. On top of doing something incredibly geeky, she’s smokin’! The following photos are linked back to their respective sources.

That last photo is linked to her official website. Go look at it!

Geek Girl of the Day

Posted in Geek Girl of the Day, Web Stuff on November 28th, 2007 by admin

Usually I just post a pic and a quick blurb of precisely one girl for GGotD but I just couldn’t stop. I found one pic that is simply geeky. The girl is cute and the pic is geeky so it qualifies on the most basic level. Not my kind of geek, but then again I am kind of particular about what is “my kind of geek.” That being said, here she is, the XBox controller licker. Anyone that loves their game system this much must be geeky.

Now that last picture came up from the Nvidia forums. I guess XBox has an Nvidia video card or something. All the same, she wins for GGotD, but the next bit could potentially provide lots of GGotD fodder for many moons to come, though the site is still in the progress of being developed. NerdGirl Pinups… Different than NerdPr0n by a long shot. I didn’t see any nudity on the site, but rather geeky girls being… well… geeky. the image below is their logo, below that is an example of what they say will be available on the site. I am interested for sure. Sexy librarian? Oh yeah!

Literature, LOLCatz, Linux and baking!

Posted in Linux, Web Stuff on November 28th, 2007 by admin

To start, I would like to say that people find this blog in the weirdest of ways. I have a stats counter at the bottom of the page. (Take a look. The stats are free to view if you are interested. I’m not secretive or proud.) Well, this stats provider also provides information on the searches that people do to get to this page. It appears that my “geek girl” series of posts is my most popular. Not a big surprise. I’m a pervert, why wouldn’t anyone else be? The one that really caught my attention was “geek, girl, fuck.” Ok, I like hot girls as much as the next guy, but seriously, how did I end up coming up on a search that was clearly for porn? Ah… the pr0n dweebs are after my page. Anyway, We’re not here to talk about the people that come to my page… or perhaps we are. You know that nothing you do on the internet is private, right? If you come here, I see what you have done. I promise. Hey! Stop posting spam, you! So, on with the next installment!

I found some stuff that was too cool not to share. First off, let’s take a look at a spiffy cut-out that I found whilst cruising. If you hadn’t guessed from my previous posts, I am kind of a horror nut. I like Tim Burton movies too. That being said, I have seen a fair share of movies with Christopher Walken in them. Apparently I’m not the only Christopher Walken fan out there. Fatboy Slim even did a video featuring the dance-stylings of Mr. Walken. (Vidz d00d!) Well, now you can even BE Christopher Walken… for Halloween, that is. I was so jazzed about this cut-out I had to share. It’s kick-ass. Actually, it’s a pretty good likeness.

So, are you sick of that little “tee hee!” that the Pillsbury Doughboy does? Me too. I have wanted to see something bad happen to that little wad of freakishly white dough. My wish has been granted. I have no idea who manufactured this image, but I was amused. Cook little doughboy, cook! The lady in this image is a little scary looking, but that’s cool. Kind of reminds me of the people in that old Soundgarden video

So, did you ever want to get a piece of someone? How about a 17th century priest? Me too! Well our day has come. At Wilkinson’s they will be auctioning a book published in 1606 that is bound in human flesh. Moreover the book is about a priest and it is supposed to be bound in his OWN FLESH! How much more cool can you get?? Because of its unique nature there is no reserve. This means it could go for any price, however I suspect that some eccentric with a lot more money than I have will be purchasing it for a large sum. Still, just to know it’s out there and to have an actual picture of it is good enough for me. Here’s the lot declaration from Wilkinson’s:

Lot 181

A Rare & Macabre Early 17th Century Anthropodermic Bound Book in carrying box. The book entitiled; ‘A True and Perfect Relation of The Whole Proceedings against the Late most barbarous Traitors, Garnet a Jesuit and his Confederats’; Printed London 1606 by Robert Barker, printer to the King and believed to be bound in human skin, possibly that of the aforementioned Jesuit Priest; Father Henry Garnet. The box having a rectangular handle to the centre with the corners having clusters of brass stud flowers, and the front having an iron clasp and lockplate, 11 ins x 7½ ins x 5 ins (28 cms x 19 cms x 13 cms).

Est. £0 – £0

Ok, for something a little lighter, there is a big craze for LOLCats online. Apparently someone parodied the O’Reilly series of books for this cover art. Now, we aren’t going to get into the LOLCats thing here. It’s WAY to cutsie for my taste. Generally it’s some “cute” picture of someone’s pet with a “clever” caption. Few are actually “cute” or “clever” and even fewer are funny IMHO. Nevertheless, I did like the O’Reilly cover, so here it is. By the way, this was on a math professor’s blog, so I was intrigued by the rest of the site for sure.

One other not-so-grim-or-grisly thing. Apparently Microsoft has admitted that their system will fail and a good way to recover data is using Linux. How funny is this? They are encouraging people to use a competing FREE operating system to get their Windows data back from an OS crash… Maybe there’s a reason why this FREE operating system is the savior… Perhaps Windows really is as bad as everyone thought… hmmm.

Linux is Microsoft’s Recommended Windows Fix

Finally, for the coup de grâce… The Mutter Museum. This is a medical museum that was built in the mid-1800s for the purpose of preserving medical findings and oddities. Some of what they have there is apparently very odd. Moreover, people find it so interesting that they will buy books of photos of the artifacts at the museum. Personally, I kind of want one of these books myself. There are two on the shelves currently, however the one pictured below is my preference. It’s from the archives and apparently contains pictures of the strangest and most disturbing images and artifacts in the museum. I’m intrigued…

Unsung Heroes, damaged property and the grim and grisly

Posted in Web Stuff on November 26th, 2007 by Ast

Oh, that last one, the grim and grisly. One of my favorite topics to think about and share with you all. Being that I am still kind of on my zombie kick, grim and grisly matches my taste quite well. That’s not where I am going to start this post, though. Why would I give you the nasty stuff first? Anyway, Jesse James, known for his criminal acts, was also a Robin Hood of sorts. One time he even saved a lady from a debtor while riding off with the money. The entire is so short that if I don’t make my clue vague you’ll not even need to read the linked article. Needless to say, he was good natured, but a little money grubbing, which is what got him in trouble in the first place.

Having that tale of heroism out of the way, lets take a look at CDs. I’m sure that every person that reads this will either have tried putting a CD in the microwave or knows someone that has done it. I have. It’s fun. It’s stinky. Anyway, I came across a page that detailed a more scientific approach to nuking CDs. Yes, there is science behind the smoking piece of plastic you just pulled out of the nuke machine. They cover all of the bases, including types of media used, the microwave and all of the specifics, etching patterns in the CD before hand and what makes the whole thing work. Honestly, I found the whole thing pretty interesting. I’ll have to try drawing patterns before I nuke my plastic disk.

Enough of that fluffy stuff. Let’s get to what we are all really here for. Doom and gloom. It ain’t called Blog O Doom for nothin’. Dystopias. There isn’t much more doomy or gloomy than a good dystopian story. From Orwell’s 1984 to Huxley’s Brave New World and even Bradbury with Fahrenheit 451 people are fascinated by the potential end of the world or end of society, more likely, as we know it. How is it going to break down? Will the Firemen come and burn your library? Will the animals take over the farm like in Animal Farm? Who knows? What we do know is that there are plenty of writers out there that want to tell us that the world is going to come crashing down on us. Perhaps it already has and we have just been fooled by the machines… Neo will save us! Regardless of the end of our freedom and the wonder of childhood, someone has decided that there should be a clean description of the various types of dystopias and created a guide. I chose the image below because I really like the movie Dark City. : )

Oh dystopia mine...

La la la… Into the darkness of death… Hey! Is that the smell of a tomb? Nah! It’s just the smell of rotting flesh, earth and a nude lady carved out of granite. So, this lady decided that she loved her husband so much that she wanted to have a special commemoration statue commissioned. It just so happened that she decided to have a nude lady (I can only assume it’s supposed to be her in her prime) carved out of stone and laid atop his grave. Don’t believe me? Check it out! This is hot… kinda.

Finally, let’s look fully into the dark and tormented lives of authors. Actually, let’s not do that. Let’s just take a look at how these people died. I found a list of the top 10 literary deaths and I thought this was particularly interesting seeing as they would never publish this kind of thing about mathematicians. I mean, come on, can you beat Galois dying in a duel or Cantor who was in and out of nuthouses his entire adult life? What about philosophers? Nietzsche was very prolific for about 10 years and then right after he wrote Ecce Homo, he just stopped, went mad, was put in a sanitarium and died there in 1900… Instead they pick unknown writers. Ok, some of these I can buy into. I particularly like the Russian poet you see below. He slit his wrists and wrote his final poem… in his own blood! Romantic and a little freaky. I gotta give this guy due credit.

The smorgasbord!

Posted in Info Freedom, Web Stuff on November 23rd, 2007 by Ast

I know it’s been a little while since I last posted in my blog, but I have just not been inclined. What can I say? Nothing has struck my fancy and I have been busy. Fortunately, I have discovered a few things today that I MUST share. Yes, I must share this stuff. It’s just kind of a random collection… mixed bag if you will, but sometimes it’s just how the stuff comes. Sorry, kiddies, no zombies today. So, to get started, let’s take a look at one of my favorite things to complain about: people sucking at math. It’s an outrage to me that people are so incredibly bad at math and refuse to take action to correct this. It’s ok for someone to say “Oh, I don’t understand math,” but if they were to say “Oh, I don’t understand English,” and they were on the streets of the US, and a native they would be laughed at and mocked. Why is this ok? This bugs the crap out of me. And I am not asking that people be able to provide careful inductive proof that the sum of some set of numbers is equal to an expression, I want them to be able to tell that -5 > -6. Is this a lot to ask? I think not. So, why specify ordering of negative numbers? Well, simply because people in the UK can’t seem to figure the darn things out. I mean, I didn’t ask an evaluation of (-1)^1/2 (Which is i, BTW) I just want people to know that if x,y<0 and x<y then |x| > |y|. Is that too much to ask?? Ok, here’s the article:

Clickety click click

So, if the Harry Potter books weren’t enough for you, you can now spend at least 6 figures to buy yet another Harry Potter related volume. Yes, I did say 6 figures. The new volume will be a hand-written piece developed by JK Rowling and sold at Sotherbys. The auction will start at $100,000. I won’t be there. I’ll wait for the movie.

Potterize me!

Crappy ghosts make great Craigslist posts. If you don’t believe me, take a look at this thing. Some guy rented a haunted apartment and thinks the ghost is a hoot. I would dig living there, I think… once I got used to it.

Sooooo spectral…

Finally, since I am really dragging on getting this post up, here’s a fun, quirky little mag. I might have to buy one. Do you like pretty girls? Do you like zombies? (Ha ha! I lied. Zombies! Right there!) Then Girls & Corpses is the mag for you. Think Hustler meets Rue Morgue. This is pretty much NSFW so be forewarned before clicking through. Enjoy!

I love the smell of rotting flesh in the morning

Let’s go to church!

Yes, folks, I have turned to religion. I have found God and all that good crap… wait… No. That’s a lie. I have, however, found Bob, Discord and Euthanasia. My personal or religious beliefs are not up for discussion or review so if you don’t like anything you see below, it’s your problem. You chose to read my blog, you deal with the consequences. I post zombies, sacrilege, smut and all kinds of nastiness on here. You think that religion is below the belt? Whatever. n00b. So, on with the religiosity and whatnot. Everything in this post is reasonably safe for work, however many of the links below ARE NOT! You have been warned. Read more »
