Blindness: Only YOU can prevent it
Posted in Web Stuff on December 22nd, 2009 by AstI’m getting so sick of people in Western culture looking down on, doing things to save and otherwise standing in the way of other cultures. Seriously, you are all idiots. You, being so open minded, had not noticed that your brain had fallen out. May I get real for a moment? Actually, I don’t need your permission, so listen up.
There are horrible things happening in the world. Most of those atrocities are related to people being horrible, sword-wielding brutes (both figuratively and literally). There are also other things that are happening, not because they are horrible, but simply because it’s the way things work outside of your sorry little bomb-shelter of a life.
Let’s start with sweatshops. Okay, I’ll give it to you, I wouldn’t want to work in one. I also don’t like the idea of people being forced to work until they collapse, but let’s look at things another way.
Suppose you live in a village where you can’t grow anything and you have no money. Moreover, you have no means to make money. None. You are starving.
Does that sweatshop job look like slavery or does it look like your family’s salvation? Stop thinking like a Western-region idiot and look at it through THEIR eyes for a moment, okay?
Now, suppose some dope, like you or Sally Struthers, and says to the world community: “these people are being abused! We must close the sweatshops and set them free!”
Good job. You just ran everyone in the entire town out of a job. Excellent. I hope they stay up nights dreaming of your painful end as they starve and their children die in their arms. Way to go, Superman. Don’t save me like that, okay? Thanks.
Next, let’s consider energy. People in the west are pushing for lower emissions and I think that’s great. Then they look at the poor countries of the world and chastise, saying “how dare you burn wood and coal! You heathens! Do you realize what you are doing to the environment?”
Yeah, they don’t care. Do they have processing plants to create cleaner fuel? No. Do they have nuclear energy to rely on for electricity? No. Do they HAVE electricity? Many of the poorest DO NOT. So, that would be like going up to a toddler and saying “stop acting like you’re three, you child.” They don’t have the means to make it better. YOU have to provide it if you want them to do anything about it.
Finally, wildlife. Poor people need to eat too. If they see something wandering by, they are going to kill it and cook it over that emissions-laden wood fire you just got done bitching about. They don’t have time to fuss over how it makes the animal feel, or if the animal is endangered, they are just hungry.
There was an article written where Michael Lu, President of the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines, was quoted in saying “it’s unfortunate that the locals aren’t more conscious of the threatened wildlife around them.”
Guess what? The poor in the Philippines don’t fucking CARE, Michael. They see a bird and they know they can eat it, so they do. The whole world isn’t like San Francisco, where the bleeding hearts get all the say.
In the end, my take-away message is “stop telling other people what they can’t do.” You all have become so horribly clueless you immediately decide everyone’s fate based on your tiny world. Grow up. Figure it out. Stay the fuck out of people’s lives.
Think.
