Smash Your TV

You should smash your TV. This is not a pathetic attempt to get people to watch a little less TV, I want people to give up TV altogether. Go cold turkey. The future depends on you and as long as you are sitting, watching TV, you are not out doing the things that could make this world a better place. Imagine all the time you spend sitting in front of the TV. Now imagine what you could do if you spent that time doing something constructive.
Why smash the TV and not simply give it away?
If you simply give your TV away then someone else will sit in front of it and do the same thing you do. By smashing it, you are doing two things at the same time. First, you are eliminating TV from your life which can only benefit you. Second, you are eliminating a TV that would continue to exist otherwise, thus helping other people with their addiction.
What should I do instead?
There are myriad options you could choose from. You could read a book. Let your mind do the work the TV was doing. You will stave off boredom and exercise your imagination in the process. You could listen to the radio. The radio doesn’t tie up your mental resources in the same way, allowing you to accomplish other things while listening. The added bonus of the radio is you can use your imagination while listening.
What about the news?
What about it? You have an internet. If you followed the suggestions above, you have a radio and you can get the news there too. Perhaps you could even use the newspaper for something other than lining the bottom of your birdcage.
What about my favorite shows?
What about them? Did I say you should smash your TV unless you really liked a show or two? No. Just get on with it. Rip the bandage off quickly and get the pain over with. Forget about TV. You know how your parents told you that TV would rot your brain? They were right.
